Overview

Learning how to summarize is a critical thinking skill that must be practiced to be mastered. Students will use this worksheet to summarize The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn and understand its complex plot. Students will interpret a plot map of the novel, noticing the overall pattern of the settings and actions. They will then select a scene from the plot map, read the corresponding text, complete a 5Ws chart, and write a short summary of the scene. Assign the worksheet after students have finished reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Students can work with this material individually or in small groups.
