Overview

Authors carefully assign personality traits and behaviors to characters to reveal important information. Students will use this worksheet to explore and appreciate how Mark Twain uses lying to delineate his characters, express themes, and structure the narrative of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Students will study the chapter grid and the color-coded columns and then answer several probing questions, noting the chapter of each supporting quote. Assign the worksheet after students have finished reading the novel. Students can work with this material individually or in small groups.
