Overview

Closely examining and analyzing a character deepens a reader’s understanding of an entire text. Students will use this worksheet to complete a character study of a character in Julius Caesar. Students should complete the task in small groups. Assign to each group one of the four central characters from the text: Caesar, Antony, Brutus, or Cassius. A character can be assigned to more than one group. Seeing the different approaches and strategies students take to accomplish the same task can often make for an interesting class discussion and reveal more about the character.

Note: You may choose to share the sample response with your class to help them get started. This sample response is purposely based on Portia, a character not listed for students to choose from. This is to provide you with an example of what the finished project might look like while not providing any sample answers to students.
