Commander of the King Lords, King is the most powerful drug lord and gang leader in Garden Heights. Violent and influential, his station as head of the King Lords has imbued him with unchecked power, and people—both gang members and residents of Garden Heights—are afraid of him. This fear enables King to have near complete control of the neighborhood. He wields his power through threats, fearmongering, intimidation tactics, and outright violence. Both physically and verbally abusive, King doesn’t even spare his family from his brutality. He regularly abuses Iesha and his children, defending his actions because of the material provision his involvement in gang life provides. He believes there is no one brave enough to challenge him, and he profits from the drug deals and cares nothing for the community.
King does exhibit a greater level of restraint when dealing with Maverick, a residual respect he affords to Maverick because the latter once took the fall and went to jail in King’s stead. This restraint is short-lived, though. King begins to make veiled threats against Starr when he’s concerned her testimony will reveal evidence of his drug dealings. He eventually sets fire to Maverick's grocery store while Seven and Starr are inside. By this point, the tolerance for King’s tyranny has worn thin. The neighborhood comes together to let the police know that King was responsible for the arson, and he is finally dethroned.
